Now here's what's important.  When we got past her tsunami of emotions, things weren't as bad as she thought!

Sure sales were down from last year (but not by that much) and cash is really tight (always is, this time of year), but the real problem was what was happening inside her head. 

When a deer gets caught in the headlights, it freezes, unable to move, and it often gets run over. Just like how you'll get run over by this economy if you get caught up in the gloom and doom and focus on what's not happening (sales) instead of what can be done (marketing).

And while nobody can deny things are crazy, crazy, crazy, there are ALWAYS things that can be done.  You're going to have to work harder for less, but that's the reality.  You can't control the economy, but you CAN control yourself and your efforts.

Here are three things that will keep you busy for the next several days... 

  1. Every day for the next 10 days call at least 6 of your best customers.  This was a tip from a couple of weeks ago, and we got really positive feedback from the people who used it.  To read the entire tip click here.

     
  2. Walk your business district or shopping center or drive up and down the road and give away gift certificates to every business owner and their employees.  They should be your customers too.
